Design Lab's Top 5 - 2019 Trends

The New Neutral Kitchen

We've all see it. The ALL WHITE kitchen, and we get it... we totally do. White is easy, neutral, it goes with everything! But trust us, there is more to a neutral kitchen than white. As you can see here, playing with texture, material, and color can still result in a stunning neutral kitchen that you can love for years to come.

Warm up neutrality with these antiqued oak cabinets from Leicht. Bringing wood into a neutral space creates texture, visual interest, as you can see here the natural beauty is preserved still showing the knots and intentionally distressed features.

The color blocked island breaks up any monotony and creates a seamless line into the living area. Your eyes see nothing but harmony. Ah! That's better.

Color Pop

Okay, now let's go into a little color theory lesson. Bring your kitchen or bath to life with a pop of color. Play around with complementary and contrasting colors (*gasp* contrasting? yes!). PSA announcment: Visual interest, it's important.

First, we have a home office featuring cabinetry from Bellmont in the Cove door style in a custom Sherwin Williams paint color and the top in a standard Bellmont paint in Pepper. This is a high contrast space that totally works! Bringing light and dark together creates strong composition.

Second, not ready for the commitment of painted cabinets? Look at these cute little red stools! Liven up your kitchen with colorful furniture pieces. In this picture we have Tolix counter height stools in Luminous Red. Cabinets are by KCD Premier Series in Brooklyn Modern Gray and White.

Third, we're featuring an accent cabinet arrangement. Check it out! Featured here is Leicht Tocco, Tocco-C, and Classic-FS cabinets in white and one of their newly released retro colors Curcuma (that means Turmeric, y'all). Other retro colors available are saffron and petrol available in both matte and lacquer finishes. The high contrast design creates excitement in an otherwise neutral kitchen.

Finally, play with different finishes in your color composition. These Leicht IOS-M in Petrol matte finish glass and Largo-FG in Platinum lacquer cabinets show us how color and light come together to create a harmonious, yet unique kitchen.

See, color is your friend!

Statement Tile

For those of us who love the look of area rugs, but have heavy duty areas, bring in statement tile for a patterned floor look but can take the wear and tear of a kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room. Some of our favorites shown below:

  • Marazzi D_Segni Stoneware in the Chalk, Midnight, Shadow, Smoke Blend
  • MS International Kenzzi Porcelain Tile in the Paloma pattern
  • Ragno Colorbody Porcelain in Rewind Hexagon and comes in colors Vanilla, Corda, Petrol, Polvere (pictured), and Tobacco

You can mix and match statement tile, create borders, or patterns your very own. It provides a great customization option for your hardworking rooms.

Brass and Gold Fixtures

Rose gold and copper were having a moment, but we're seeing brass and gold coming back in a big way, as well as silver and bronze. At Orange Sky Design Lab, we carry three lines of kitchen and bath fixtures and two lines of cabinetry hardware.

Our kitchen and bath fixture brands:

  • Blanco
  • Brizo
  • Delta

Our cabinetry hardware brands:

  • Amerock
  • Schaub

Gold and Brass hardware can warm up a modern space especially with high contrast yet neutral details.

Herringbone

Chevron may be dying but its handsome scotch-drinking friend Herringbone is here to stay! Herringbone is more classic and subtler than the high graphic Chevron pattern. We love Marazzi Costa Clara glazed ceramic tile in the 3 inch by 12 inch size. You can lay it out straight or mix it up in a herringbone pattern. It also comes in a 6 inch by 6 inch size, as well. It is so glossy and beautiful, perfect for a polished modern back-splash in a kitchen or bath. AND it comes in ten; yes, TEN colors!

Still having a love affair with Chevron? That's okay! Check out this Chevron pattern in a Herringbone layout. We can get you the best of both worlds! This is another tile from Marazzi called Urban District MIX it's a glazed porcelain stoneware tile with a reclaimed wood look. Gorgeous! This is perfect for your urban rustic modern space and comes in four colors. We love it in an entry and sitting room application like shown, but it's also versatile enough to go throughout the home.
